BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – June 10, 2024 - Cornerstone Alliance announced today that Rob Cleveland is stepping down as President and CEO.

Cleveland has led the organization since 2015. During that time, Cornerstone Alliance has assisted in creating more than 1,000 new jobs, and more than $215 million in new investment in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.

“On behalf of the board of directors, I want to thank Rob for his leadership and dedication to Berrien County, and the entire state of Michigan,” said John Janick, Chair of the Cornerstone Alliance Board of Directors. “The mission of our organization is to lead projects that create new jobs and investment, expand infrastructure, and make the community more attractive to new residents. We have the support and resources necessary to continue this important work for generations to come.”

As the premier economic development organization in Southwest Michigan, Cornerstone Alliance has served the region for 35 years. Since its inception, Cornerstone Alliance has been instrumental in projects that include development of the Harbor Shores community, development of the Benton Harbor Arts District, attraction of new companies including JVIS and Kay Manufacturing, as well as being recognized as Michigan Women’s Business Center of the Year.

The Cornerstone Alliance mission is well rounded, focused not only on supporting businesses, but also supporting the activities that lead directly to population growth. The partnerships with Harbor Shores, Kinexus and Berrien County Community Development led to meaningful, visible results for residents.

Cornerstone Alliance plans to conduct a national search for its next leader. Cleveland has taken a similar position in the South, and his final day with the organization will be July 5.

“I have worked alongside smart, dedicated people at Cornerstone Alliance, and I want to thank each of them for the effort they’ve given to make this community a better place to live,” said Cleveland. “I’ll be forever grateful that the board of directors entrusted me to lead the organization for more than eight years."
