Benton Harbor, Mich., (November 20, 2023) — The Renaissance Athletic Club, a Benton Harbor-based, minority-owned athletic club, is investing $430,000 in the City of Benton Harbor. The Benton Harbor City Commission approved a Commercial Rehabilitation Exemption at this evening’s meeting. The Commercial Rehabilitation Exemption is a tool that encourages new investment in, and rehabilitation of, an existing facility.

“We are very grateful and appreciative to the Benton Harbor City Commission for their support of us as a local business,” said Sean Todman, President and Owner of Renaissance Athletic Club. “Since the start of Renaissance Athletic Club, we have been committed to delivering the best facility, offerings, and customer service that we can here in the city of Benton Harbor. The commission support is very valuable to us and essential for our continued growth within the community.”

This investment marks a significant enhancement for the Renaissance Athletic Club facilities including new flooring, updated plumbing and shower fixtures, new cold tubs, remodeled spa areas, and parking lot asphalt rejuvenation.

The approved exemption will allow the club to invest in rehabilitating its facilities, and introducing new amenities, while retaining 56 jobs and creating an additional four job opportunities for local residents. It is expected that the project will take 4-6 months to complete once work begins.

Zach Vaughn, Director of Business Development for Cornerstone Alliance, detailed the investment impact on the community. “We commend the Benton Harbor City Commission for its forward-thinking approach in approving the exemption for the RAC enhancements. This not only encourages local business growth but also contributes to the overall vibrancy and vitality of our community,” said Vaughn.

Since opening its doors, the Renaissance Athletic Club has been a pillar of health and fitness in the community and a key player in promoting wellness and an active lifestyle. This investment will create positive outcomes to Benton Harbor, fostering a healthier and more prosperous environment for all.
