Cornerstone Alliance Launches Free Public
Wi-Fi Across Benton Harbor, Enhancing Community Connectivity

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (June 11, 2024) – Cornerstone Alliance, the lead economic development organization serving Berrien County, announced the launch of free public Wi-Fi throughout the City of Benton Harbor at a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier today. The new network offers a free wireless internet connection within June Woods Park, Union Park, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Southwest Michigan Fettig Youth Campus, and Harbor City Flats. Additionally, Buss Avenue Apartments are set to come online soon.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s FY2022 Community Project Funding award, the Cornerstone Alliance Community Wi-Fi Project aims to mitigate additional expenses for residents and enhance the quality of life in Benton Harbor. This initiative aims to encourage greater activity in public spaces and boost efficiency for both residents and visitors.

According to the United States Census Bureau, approximately 27% of households within the City of Benton Harbor are without broadband internet. The median household income within the City of Benton Harbor is around $26, 592 (United States Census Bureau). The Cornerstone Alliance Community Wi-Fi Project aims to support residents by reducing household expenses, offering reliable internet services, and equipping families with modern capabilities that streamline and enhance everyday life.
